Common questions

How do I check power outages in Canada?

This page lists live outage status for every Canadian province we track — from British Columbia to the Atlantic provinces — refreshed about every 15 minutes from each province's own utility outage feed. Canada has no independent, government-run nationwide outage count the way the United States does, so the numbers come straight from the utilities. Pick your province, or search your address for the most specific view.

Is there a single Canada-wide outage total?

We show a combined "customers out across Canada" figure, but it is a sum of the provinces whose utilities we track — not an official national tally, which does not exist in Canada. Customers of utilities we do not yet track will not appear. Each province page names exactly which utilities feed its numbers.

Which provinces are covered?

We currently track 9 provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island. Most are served by a single main electricity utility — a provincial power authority or its dominant distributor — whose public outage map is the province's coverage; Alberta and Ontario have many local utilities, so their pages show what share we track so far.
